Elder Abuse
We represent elderly people, people with disabilities and their families when a caregiver, a relative or anyone else has taken the person’s money or property or has physically abused the person.
We bring the civil claim Oregon law gives a vulnerable person, which allows three times the damages and attorney fees against the person who took the money or property and against anyone who knowingly permitted the abuse. The claim can be brought by the person, by a guardian or conservator, or after death by the personal representative. We also ask the court for a restraining order that keeps the abuser away from the person and the property while the case is pending.
Where a crime has been committed, we work with Adult Protective Services and the district attorney.
